Watford & District Model Railway Club

We are a small but well established club presently engaged in a new venture to build a OO gauge layout to exhibition standards. It is expected that the layout will be based on a station within the Watford/north London area. We also work on each other’s own layouts so that we can all learn and experience every aspect of the hobby. Occasionally we may put aside an evening to watch railway videos or watch them as we work (multi-tasking!).

In the past some of us have been involved in the design, construction and running of a number of layouts which have graced the exhibition circuit including the likes of our erstwhile O gauge Smug Oak and our first venture in P4 Callowland (now sold on) so we can build on the experience in the construction of our new OO gauge layout and help pass on techniques to those wanting to build up their own skills.

We’re a friendly bunch who live mainly in the District rather than Watford itself, but there’s no restriction – do come and see for yourself.

Meeting place:

The club meets every Thursday evening from 8pm to 10pm at the Thorpe Community Room attached to Garston Fire Station in St Albans Road at the Dome Roundabout by Asda’s and Sainsbury’s [the junction of St Albans Road (A412) and North Western Avenue (A41)].

If you wish to join us or just pay a visit, please let our Secretary know (contact details below) or simply turn up on a Thursday evening at the Thorpe Room – but whatever you do, please do not park in front of the fire station doors — Blue Watch will not be best pleased!
